A shloka (शलोक) (also spelt sloka)(सलोक) is a form of hindu prayer, verse, phrase, proverb or hymn of praise, usually composed in a specified meter. The most common form is a verse of two lines, each of sixteen syllables. Shlokas are the primary verse form of the Sanskrit epics, Mahabharata and Ramayana.
