Shandur Top is a high mountain pass that connects Chitral to Gilgit.

Shandur Top is 12,200 feet high. However, the top is flat, a plateau. For this reason, it is safe to cross throughout the year. This contrasts with Lowari Top which is only 10,230 feet high but is very dangerous because of avalanche.

Shandur Top is located at .

Every year there is a polo match played on Shandur Top between a team from Chitral and a team from Gilgit.

The plateau which starts at the top and gradually descends down to Teru in the Ghizr district of the Northern Areas is an extremely beautiful area and is criss crossed by small streams which

are full of trout.

The word "Top" is interesting. It is believed not to be the English word "top" but to be a word from an ancient language no longer spoken there.

The Shandur Top is one of the four major mountain passes to enter Chitral. The others are the Dorah Pass from Badakshan in Afghanistan, Lowari Top from Dir, and Broghol from the Wakhan Corridor in Afghanistan.

The people who live on either side of Shandur Top speak the Khowar language.
