According to Hinduism, Ravi sometimes also called Rabi is Surya, the Sun. He is one of the Adityas. By this practice, Sunday is known as Ravivar in India. In Kerala, Sunday is called as Njayar, again a synonym for "sun". This god's full name is Ravikiran, which means "rays of the sun."

Ravi is a common male name amongst Hindus. There are several forms of this name some of which are Ravi Kiran, Ravi Kumar Gupta, Ravi chandra, Ravindranath, Ravinder, Ravindra. A few of the world-renowned people with



name Ravi are Ravi Shankar () and nobel laurette Rabindranath Tagore ()
