Pramukh Swami Maharaj (born December 7, 1921 in the village of Chansad in Gujarat, India) is a spiritual leader of the Hindu organization of Bochasanwasi Akshar-Purushottam Swaminarayan Sanstha (BAPS). According to BAPS, to those in the Swamiji’s presence, doubts dissolve, confusions clear, hurts heal and the mind finds peace. People find answers to life's toughest questions. To his followers, Pujya Pramukh Swami Maharaj is the fifth spiritual successor of Bhagwan Swaminarayan and the present leader of Bochasanwasi Shri Akshar Purushottam Swaminarayan Sanstha. He leads a life of celibacy, without personal wealth or comfort. In an effort to lead a life representing the essence of Hinduism, demonstrate his compassion for humanity, his universal wisdom and his striking simplicity, he has touched many world religious and national leaders. But most important to his followers is his quiet, undisturbed love for God which rises beyond all borders of nation, race and religion. Even after creating an international spiritual faith of hundreds of mandirs, thousands of centres and over a million followers, the Swamiji remains engrossed in prayer. All through his life, Pramukh Swami Maharaj has been constantly traveling different locations and does not have a permanent residence. Amongst the accomplishments of Pramukh Swami include building of many mandirs throughout the world. Furthermore, the Delhi Akshardham and Gandhinagar Akshardham monuments are built by him.
