Maharishi Vedic Medicine (or Maharishi's Consciousness-Based Health Care) was founded in the mid 1980s by Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, who is perhaps most famous for bringing the transcendental meditation technique to the entire world. Maharishi revived the ancient ideas of "consciousness as the root of all things" and reintegrated it into healthcare using the ancient treatments of ayurveda.

MVM is a preventative system of health care which operates on the most fundamental levels of the physiology. Practitioners detect diseases in early stages, before they've arisen in the gross physiology, and give simple treatments (consisting mainly of dietary adjustments, routine changes, etc.) to elminate the problem before it arises. Maharishi Vedic Medicine is on the forefront of "alternative" medicines and aims at being a complementary system to exist alongside modern, western medicine.
