Kumbhakarna (Sanskrit: कुम्भकर्ण, kumbhakarNa) is a Rakshasa (demon) in Hindu epic Ramayana. He is the brother of Ravana, and is said to be 420,000 metres tall. This height could have made him almost invincible, but luckily when he asked for a boon from Brahma, his tongue was tied by a goddess, and all he managed to say was that he wanted to sleep. His request was granted, and so Kumbhakarna sleeps for six months at a time and awakes only one day at a time. However, when he wakes, he is a gluttonous beast and eats everything in the vicinity. When he came

to know the circumstances of Ravana's war with Rama, he tried to convince his Ravana that what he was doing is not right. However, he chose to fight in the battle due to his loyalty to Ravana. He was eventually killed by Rama.
