The Khatris is a sub-group of Punjabis and are the original Kshatriya group of the Hindu caste system.

The Khatris traditionally belonged mainly to the Majha and Potohar regions of Punjab, with quite a significant presence in areas of the now North West Frontier Province of Pakistan.

Since 1947, the majority of Khatris, who were mainly Hindus and Sikhs, migrated from their traditional strongholds and were settled in many parts of the now Indian states and the Union Territory (UT) of Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Chandigarh and Delhi. Much of the displaced Punjabi Hindu and Sikh population of Delhi belongs to the Khatri sub-group.
