Indian classical dance is performed in different styles. Its theory can be traced back to the Natya Shastra of Bharata Muni (400 BC). Its various currents forms are:

• Bharatanatyam
• Odissi
• Manipuri
• Kathakali
• Kuchipudi
• Mohiniaattam
• Kathak
• Sattriya

Note that Manipuri is clearly distinct from the above.

Some also include the classical dances of Assam:

• Sattriya,
• Savaguwa and Rang-guwa Ojapali dance
• Dewgharar Dev-Natir Nritya
