Carnelian is a red or reddish-brown variant of chalcedony. The word is derived from the Latin word meaning flesh, in reference to the flesh color sometimes exhibited.

Carnelian also describes a particular shade of the color red. The alternate spelling "cornelian" is sometimes used, perhaps evolving from the adoption of the color as one of the official colors of Cornell University.

Carnelian is an famous female illustrator in Japan that draws Anime style art.Most of her drawings are H Game pictures. Her most famous works are Moonlight Lady (Kao no nai tsuki) and Yami to Boushi to Hon no Tabibito.
