Brahmanism, popularly known as Hinduism, developed its ritual, worship and philosophy from Aryan scriptures the Vedas. Over the years this civilization, culture and tradition were trickled down to the lower caste of the social hierarchy of the Hindu society through puranas as well as Ithihasas like Ramayana and Mahabharata. Brahmanism considers Brahmin caste as hereditary creators, preservers and propagators of religion. A Brahmin (less often Brahman) is a person born in the priestly Brahmin caste. The word is related to but not to be confused with religious conception of the transcendent and immanent Supreme soul, "Brahman". The word Brahmin literally means One who has realised or attempts to realise Brahman. According to the Purusha Sukta, the lyric sung to the glory of Vishnu, Brahmins are said to have come from the mouth of the Purusha. Around three thousand years ago, philosophers expounded on early Vedic and mystic learnings within the Vedas to produce the Upanishads, and it was in this period that the six schools of Brahmin philosophy or Vedic philosophy evolved. However Brahminism faced challenges from other schools of thought such as Buddhism, Jainism and, Carvaka 's. The Vedic line, which saw its nascence with the Aryan Brahminic schools, progressed into the Samkhya, Nyaya, Vaisheshika, Vedanta and Yoga schools, drawing from the rich Vedic canon of symbolism, philosophy theology and cosmology, as well as retaining Vedic gods or melding them with non-Brahmin deities like /a> | A.C.
