Babburkamme's are a community that mainly reside in Karnataka, as well as living in different other countries like USA, UK, Australia and New Zealand. Babburkamme's are followers of the Smarta tradition (see Smartism). Smarta is derived from 'Smrithi' a sanskrit word with the meaning of one who "remembers or revers their teacher/Guru". Smarta tradition is closely associated with the Advaita tradition of Sri Adishankaracharya. Kamme is derived from 'Karmin' means who are practicing "Vaidhika Dharma".

Kamme community is as old as 800 AD. According to one version, Kammes are migrated from village Babbur, Andhra Pradhesh. Another version is they have migrated from place called 'Barbara' in central province of India. Babburkammes are largely spread in Holenarasipura, Konanur, Arkalgud, Bellur, Kanakatte, Mirle, Arasikere, Belavadi, Mayasandra, Bettadapura towns in Karnataka state.

a strong emphasis on education that applies to both males and females. In tradition of marriage, dowry is a concept not practiced or not even recognised. Many great rulers, thinkers, poets, lawyers, doctors, teachers, sportmen are from Babburkammes community. CricketerAnil Kumble and Supreme Court Judge Justice B.N. Srikrishna are notable members of this community. The main deity of Babburkammes is Lord Shiva, however being followers of Advaita Smartism, Babburkammes worship all the major forms of God including, Lord Shiva, Lord Vishnu, Lord Ganesha, Mata Gowrie, Mata Saraswati, Mata Laxmi, Mata Durga, Shakti and Karthikeya. Depending on the tradition of the family, their is a specific form of God that is revered known as Ishta Deva. Babburkamme's celebrate Ugadi, Navaratri, Deepavali and Gowri Ganesha festivals.
