Anil Kapoor (born 24 December, 1959) is an Indian movie actor.

Biography

Anil has many film industry connections. His father, Surinder Kapoor, is a film producer. One of his brothers, Boney Kapoor, is a producer whilst his other brother Sanjay Kapoor is an actor. This branch of the Kapoors is only distantly related to the famous Kapoor Bollywood film clan. He is the brother-in-law of the actress Sridevi.

He is an alumnus of the National School of Drama (class of 1980).

Film Career

Anil Kapoor appeared in a few minor roles, then starred in the 1983 film Woh Saat Din (Those seven days). His career took off with the hit Ram-Lakhan in which he co-starred with Jackie Shroff. Anil starred with Madhuri Dixit in the 1989 hit movie Tezaab. He also appeared in Mr.India, Lamhe, Parinda, and Kishan Kanhaiya. He won critical acclaim for his role as a freedom fighter in the 1993 movie 1942: A Love Story.

His performance in Tezaab won him



the Filmfare Best Actor Award, this was followed by another Filmfare Award for his performance in Beta. His success at the box office continued. He followed this with a critically acclaimed performance in Pukar, for which he received the National Award for Best Actor.

His recent films include the 2005 My Wife's Murder, Chocolate and No Entry.

Anil Kapoor has won 5 Filmfare Awards so far:-

  • 1989, Filmfare Best Actor Award, Tezaab
  • 1993, Filmfare Best Actor Award, Beta
  • 1998, Filmfare Critics Award for Best Performance, Virasat
  • 2000, Filmfare Best Supporting Actor Award, Taal

He has been nominated three times in the Best Actor category, winning two out of three. His other awards include- 2 IIFA Awards, 2 Screen Awards, a Zee Cine Award Best Actor in a Supporting Role- Male and a National Award.

Personal Life

Anil is married to Sunita Kapoor and has two daughters. His daughter, Sonam Kapoor will make her debut alongside Ranbir Kapoor, the son of actor Rishi Kapoor, in Sanjay Leela Bhansali's next film.
